The equilibria that existed in the province of Castellon in 1907 were broken during Maura’s ‘Long Government’. The conservatives made a great effort, which had been planned long before, to obtain a member of parliament for Castelló, since, if in the case of the rural districts victory could be achieved simply by resorting to clientelism, the same did not happen in the city, which was mobilised. The book affords us a glimpse of the configuration of political conservatism during the early decades of the 20th century, as it analyses the differences in the right-wing groups, where the despotic networks of the conservative party and the Carlist-Catholic magma were located. The contradiction between the despotic politics in the rural districts and the seeking of the popular vote in the district of Castelló could not be solved, and this triggered the dispersion of the movement and its defeat until the unification was carried out in the 1920s, compelled by Primo de Rivera’s dictatorship, within the Unión Patriótica political party and the paramilitary organisation Sometent. | | Recull de premsa de la Plaça del llibre de Castelló / Fotos de la presentació a la Plaça del llibre de Castelló |
