Matilde Escuder Vicente (1913-2006) has only recently achieved the widespread recognition and contextualisation she deserves. The intensity and strong personality of the teacher Félix Carrasquer Launed from Aragón, her partner, eclipsed the fact that she supported him in creating his works, deserving recognition and acclaim for her important, if anonymous, contribution. Like other women teachers, Matilde was a mould-breaker. She was a figure who represented the women born in the early 20th century who broke all the rules. Her biography covers every vicissitude of the road these Spanish women were forced to follow: the war from a revolutionary position, the fight for survival in the inhuman post-war period, the hard life in prison under the Franco regime, the exile of a country that did not accept their libertarian ideas and behaviour, but also the satisfaction of living with a group of people who shared their ideologies.
