This was just the first step in a long and by no means straightforward journey for the new Christian community that needed to build a modern society, with everything that implied. There was clearly an inherent conflict in the social fabric of the rural community, managed using determined pacification practices, such as peace-keeping mediation and arbitration. Ultimately, an analysis of 14th-century notarised deeds allows the author to focus on the conflicts while offering the chance to find out details of all aspects defining the lives of ordinary people in Vilafranca and, by extension, the rural Valencian region as a whole. | |
