Far from the epic that has always been taught in classrooms and commemorations, the Spanish-American independences not necessarily represented the expected and fair emergence of the nation. In the case of Venezuela, the process that saw the collapse of the colonial order and led to a republican form of existence was dramatic and violent, with more emphasis placed on its early years. This research approaches those events by stating that what happened at that time is an unfailing part of the dynamics of the colonial society and the cessation of its effectiveness, opposing the nationalist view that continues to see the advent of freedoms and equalities in it. The work unfolds by using a critical analytical approach: rather than an effect of modernity, independence was a historical and social process proper to the contexts where it took place, and this is also the main focus of the study dealing with the case of Venezuela. | |
