The diseases that most frequently affected the population of Castellón between 1880 and 1918 were malaria, diphtheria, leprosy, smallpox, rabies, cholera, and influenza. Their origin, manifestations, medical treatments, hygiene in homes, food control, street cleanliness and sanitation, and the health policies implemented by municipal authorities are analyzed in this book, which also highlights the significant influence of physicians such as José Gil Valero, Vicente Gea Mariño, Juan Bautista Bellido, and José Clara, with their hygienist approaches and their intervention in deadly epidemics.
