The history of Greece in the fifth century B.C. is marked by two transcendental conflicts: the
expeditions against the Greeks of the Persians Darius and Xerxes, which are called the
Persian Wars, and the war between the Peloponnesians and Athenians, the Peloponnesian
War. Thucydides, a historian in the modern sense, offers a scientific writing, above
historiographical narrative, intended for public reading for entertainment.
